Animal Welfare Drive
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Animal Husbandry Department has announced a week-long statewide campaign to mark World Rabies Day (28th September 2025) and World Animal Welfare Day (4th October 2025).
The campaign aims to promote rabies prevention and animal welfare across the state.
A key feature of the initiative will be a rabies vaccination drive for both stray and pet dogs from 28th September to 4th October, with special emphasis on immunizing stray dogs due to their crucial role in rabies prevention.
Veterinary teams across the state will be mobilized to ensure maximum coverage.
In addition to vaccinations, the department will organize a series of awareness activities to foster compassion towards animals and educate citizens about rabies prevention.
These include competitions in painting, declamation, and essay writing in schools and colleges. Public awareness efforts will also involve collaboration with local bodies, NGOs, animal welfare groups, and animal lovers.
The Department emphasized that community participation, NGO involvement, and support from educational institutions are essential for the success of the initiative.
The campaign’s message is clear: “Vaccinate to eliminate rabies and show compassion to save animals and the planet.”
Director of Animal Husbandry, Himachal Pradesh, Dr Sanjeev Dhiman said, “Rabies is a preventable disease, and vaccination is the most effective way to save lives.
At the same time, animal welfare is linked to environmental sustainability and human well-being. We appeal to all citizens, institutions, and organizations to join hands in these campaigns.”
