Shimla –Himalayan Forest Research Institute(HFRI), Shimla, host  a transformative two-day training program on "Forestry and Silviculture of Important Forestry Species" for officers and soldiers of the Eco Task Force of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry and Dogra Regiment.

 The event aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge on forestry practices in the challenging terrains of the North-Western Himalayas.

The training commenced with a warm welcome from Scientist Pitambar Singh Negi, the program coordinator, who extended greetings to Major Amit Guha and other soldiers present.

Negi provided insights into the institute's ongoing work related to forestry in the Himalayan regions, setting the stage for the comprehensive two-day agenda.

HFRI director, Dr. Sandeep Sharma addressed the trainees, highlighting the crucial role the Eco Task Force plays in enhancing forest cover, especially in the Himalayan areas.

Emphasizing the need to surpass the current forest cover of 25%, Dr. Sharma stressed that the training program was tailored to benefit the Eco Task Force in their mission to plant trees in challenging Himalayan terrains.

Throughout the training, officers and soldiers received detailed insights from institute scientists on various aspects of forestry and forest promotion.

Scientist Pitambar Singh Negi delivered a comprehensive presentation on "Seed Collection, Collection, Storage and Pre-Sowing Treatment of Forestry Species," covering vital aspects of seed management.

Subsequent sessions included a lecture by Dr. Jagdish Singh, Scientist, on the "Nursery and Planting Technique of Polonia Tree" and a detailed presentation by Dr. Swaran Lata Scientist on the "Role of Silvipastoral System in Productivity Enhancement."

Dr. Sandeep Sharma spoke on the "Role of Modern Nursery Technology in Quality Planting Stock," while Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim, Scientist, provided insights into the "Selection of Quality Planting Material for Tree Plantation Program."

Twelve dedicated officers and soldiers from the Eco Task Force of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry and Dogra Regiment actively participated in the two-day training program.

The intensive sessions aimed not only to enhance their knowledge but also to contribute towards the broader goal of increasing the country's forest cover.

As part of the program, participants will also have the opportunity to explore ongoing research in the institute's laboratories and visit the model nursery in Baragaon.
