Bilaspur: In a sharp crackdown, Bilaspur police on Monday busted a suspected drug supply chain operating out of a local hotel, arresting five youths—including one each from Rampur and Kangra, and three others from Bilaspur and Una—and recovering 15.8 grams of chitta (heroin) from their possession.

Acting on a specific tip-off, a police team led by Bilaspur SP conducted a swift raid at the hotel, catching the accused red-handed. The recovered contraband, suspected to be meant for local distribution, has once again exposed the deepening drug menace tightening its grip on Himachal’s youth.

According to the police, preliminary investigation suggests that the arrested youths were not just consumers but had allegedly begun peddling the drug, turning addiction into a means of livelihood. “This is not just substance abuse anymore—it’s a transition into organized micro-trafficking,” a senior officer said, hinting at a wider network behind the operation.

What has alarmed investigators further is the emerging pattern of vulnerable youth—and even minor girls—being lured into the trade. Police sources indicate that traffickers are increasingly exploiting minors as low-risk couriers, banking on the assumption that they attract less suspicion.

“This is a disturbing shift. Young boys and girls are being trapped first as users, then pushed into peddling. It’s a vicious cycle,” the SP said, adding that such trends could have far-reaching social and criminal consequences if not checked immediately.

The case has once again put the spotlight on Bilaspur, Una, and adjoining areas as growing transit and consumption hubs in the state’s expanding narcotics network. Investigations are underway to trace backward linkages and identify the kingpins orchestrating the supply chain.

With the youth increasingly falling prey to this nexus, the latest bust serves as a grim reminder: Himachal’s drug problem is no longer on the fringes—it is knocking at the doors of its next generation.
