Shimla: Himachal Pradesh once again stamped its authority in winter sports by securing the second position in the overall medal tally at the Khelo India Winter Games 2026.
The state’s athletes delivered a power-packed performance, winning a total of 14 medals—six gold, seven silver and one bronze—to successfully retain their runner-up position from the previous edition.
The strong showing underlined Himachal’s growing dominance on snow, with athletes displaying exceptional grit and technical excellence across disciplines, particularly in ski mountaineering and other alpine events.
Competing against top winter sports contingents from across the country, Himachali sportspersons held their nerve on challenging slopes to bring home a rich medal haul.
Officials credited the achievement to sustained training, grassroots talent identification and the relentless commitment of coaches and support staff.
“This is a collective triumph,” said an official associated with the contingent, acknowledging the role of athletes, coaches and technical teams in delivering consistent results at the national level.
The state government also received praise for its continued backing of winter sports. The Government of Himachal Pradesh has invested in infrastructure, exposure and athlete welfare, helping create a robust ecosystem for snow sports.
With this performance, Himachal Pradesh has reinforced its reputation as India’s winter sports powerhouse, setting high expectations ahead of future national and international competitions.
