MANDI: In an initiative to address the pressing issue of climate change, the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi today hosted a Climate Clock Assembly and Display Event.
As many as 370 individuals representing 55 different institutes, including schools and colleges took part in the event.
Divided into 30 groups, participants were provided with hardware display kits containing various electronic components.
The primary task assigned to each group was to assemble the kit and construct a climate clock.
This unique clock serves as a ticking reminder of the time left before Earth's average temperature increases by 1.5 degrees Celsius—an alarming threshold often considered a point of no return in climate change.
The climate clock, a tangible symbol of the urgency to address climate issues, visually represents the critical timeline for corrective actions.
Participants not only engaged in a hands-on activity but also gained valuable insights into effective methods of raising awareness about climate change within their respective school communities.
The event featured Mr. Sachin Kumar as the speaker, a distinguished member of the Energy Swaraj Foundation founded by Prof. Chetan Solanki, a respected professor at IIT Bombay.
The collaborative effort of the Yantrik club (club FA: Dr. Deepak Sachan) and the Robotronics club (club FA: Dr. Jagadeesh Kadiyam) at IIT Mandi played a pivotal role in organizing the event.
The club coordinators and the core team of both clubs contributed significantly to the event's success.
Dr. Hitesh Shrimali, the Dean of Students at IIT Mandi, graced the occasion as the chief guest, adding prestige to the event. In recognition of their participation, each institution received an assembled climate clock, and all participants were awarded certificates of participation.
