Solan: Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, held its 13th Convocation today, with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla presiding over the event.
A total of 816 degrees were awarded, including 119 Ph.D. degrees in horticulture and forestry. 12 gold medals were conferred on meritorious students, most of whom were women, highlighting their growing prominence in education and research.
The Governor congratulated the students and urged them to leverage their knowledge to support farmers with sustainable practices.
He emphasized the importance of a drug-free Himachal and the potential of start-ups in agriculture and horticulture.
Highlighting the university's achievements, he praised its 18th rank among agricultural universities and top recognition for its Bee Research Centre.
Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi lauded the state’s advancements in agriculture and apple marketing, citing initiatives like the HP-Shiva project to expand horticulture across 6,000 hectares.
He also announced Himachal’s upcoming Horticulture Policy, expected to generate 82,500 jobs.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Rajeshwar Chandel detailed the university’s strides in natural farming and thanked the government for financial support.
The Governor also released several university publications during the event.
