New Delhi, Dec 2: Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, at the CII Partnership Summit 2024, made it clear that the Global South isn't accountable for the planet’s environmental mess.
Blaming developed nations for benefiting from cheap energy, Goyal emphasized shared but fair responsibilities for sustainability.
"The burden must match the contribution to the damage. The Global South won’t carry the baggage alone," he said.
Highlighting the need for responsible consumption, he warned, “Wasteful lifestyles are choking the planet. We must adopt circular economies and cut carbon footprints.”
On technology, Goyal called for a balance between AI-driven innovation and cultural heritage, stressing education and skills to empower India’s youth.
“Ease of Doing Business and Living depends on how we equip our people for the future,” he noted.
He urged nations to boost trade, tourism, and energy collaborations, calling for global unity. “India stands for peace, dialogue, and shared prosperity,” Goyal said.
