It  is a first of its kind community-based movement against plastic pollution and for environmental conservation in Uttarakhand that needs to be emulated in order parts of the mountain states.

DEHRADUN: The Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation’s Plastic Bank campaign is gaining momentum, now rallying support from the Indian Army families in Dehradun.

This significant step marks a powerful expansion of the campaign, transforming it into a dynamic people's movement against plastic waste.

Following engagements with schools, hospitals, and various institutions, the SDC Foundation has now partnered with the military community in Dehradun's Garhi Cantt Cantonment.

Over 4,000 military families are expected to join this environmental initiative, emphasizing community-driven action against plastic pollution.

The collaboration kicked off on World Environment Day 2024, June 5th, when SDC Founder Anoop Nautiyal had addressed a large gathering of military officers, soldiers, and their families at the Garhi Cantt.

Nautiyal urged the participants to minimize plastic use and collect their plastic waste for SDC’s recycling efforts.

His appeal resonated, leading over 100 families to hand over their collected plastic waste to SDC at the Mahendra Ground in the Cantonment area.

Military officers expressed enthusiasm for continuing the program, with plans to engage more than 4,000 families in the area.

Nautiyal emphasized that while plastic use is rising, public awareness and waste reduction efforts lag behind.

SDC's Plastic Banks are tackling this gap, with 135 banks already established in Dehradun, aiming to turn the initiative into a widespread movement.

The event saw active participation from administrative officers, Swachhata Inspectors, and military personnel, with key contributions from SDC members Dinesh Semwal, Praveen Upreti, Abhishek Bhatt, Bittu, and Subhash, ensuring the program's success.

As SDC Foundation drives this grassroots movement, it sets a precedent for community-led environmental action, promising to amplify efforts against plastic pollution across the country.
