DEHRADUN: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a resounding victory in the Uttarakhand municipal elections, securing 10 out of 11 mayoral seats.
An independent candidate clinched the remaining seat, while the Congress party failed to secure any position.
The BJP's triumph is evident across various municipal corporations, including Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Haldwani, Kashipur, Rudrapur, Roorkee, Kotdwar, and Pithoragarh.
Notably, in Srinagar (Pauri district), independent candidate Arti Bhandari emerged victorious.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attributed this historic win to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the public's faith in the welfare-oriented policies of the double-engine government.
He congratulated the winners and urged them to expedite development initiatives.
The elections witnessed a voter turnout of 65.4%, with polling conducted for 11 municipal corporations, 43 municipal councils, and 46 nagar panchayats.
A total of 5,405 candidates contested, including 72 for mayoral positions.
This sweeping victory underscores the BJP's stronghold in Uttarakhand's urban political landscape and reflects the electorate's endorsement of the party's governance and development agenda, claimed BJP leaders.
