Shimla: In a move that has stirred dissent among tribal communities in Himachal Pradesh, the Sukhu-led government and the Congress party have bulldozed through opposition to secure the Rajya Sabha seat for Congress legal stalwart Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
This decision, made at the expense of tribal representation, has left many questioning the priorities of the state government and Congress high command.
The decision comes from high command as Congress with shrinking political fortune, need stalwarts in Parliament who can take on the might of vociferous BJP MPs and Singhvi fit the bill.
It is not only Congress even BJP and other Parties practice the same state craft when it comes to bring in their stalwarts as decided by the dictates of Party High commands.
Himachal has just seven MPs- Four Lok Sabha and Three Rajya Sabha. But then even seat or two are being dished out to outsiders, rued analysts.
The nomination of Singhvi comes as a blow to the aspirations of tribal candidates, who had hoped for a rare opportunity to have one of their own represent them in the upper house after a hiatus of 24 years.
Despite pleas from tribal groups, their voices have been overshadowed by political maneuvering.
The vacancy in the Rajya Sabha arose with the conclusion of Jagat Prakash Nadda's tenure, the BJP president, who has now been strategically shifted to Gujarat.
The issue of allotting seat to a tribal candidate did not come up to discussion at the e state or national level in Congress arena as tribals of Himachal remain less assertive and remain viral on social media, said a tribal leader.
By prioritizing party politics over the genuine representation of the people, the Sukhu government has further alienated marginalized communities.
The decision to overlook tribal candidates not only undermines the principles of democracy but also perpetuates a cycle of exclusion and marginalization.
As the dust settles on this nomination, the tribal communities of Himachal Pradesh find themselves once again sidelined in the corridors of power as far as Parliament is concerned.
