Dehradun: Doon citizens, fed up with the stalled progress of the Smart City initiative, have taken matters into their own hands. A brainstorming session was held on Nemi Road to address the incomplete efforts of Smart City Doon and MDDA (Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority).
This meeting was in response to suggestions made by social organization representatives during the recent "Jan Samvad" event organized by the Sanyukta Nagarik Sangathan.
The outcome of this session was a decision to create a People's Manifesto for the residents of Doon.
To kick-start this initiative, a coordination committee was formed, and it's set to expand in the future. This committee will collect suggestions from the people of Dehradun to draft the People's Manifesto.
Once complete, it will be presented to government officials and public representatives for implementation.
Furthermore, there will be a call for greater involvement of social organizations in development projects. An extensive awareness campaign will be launched to garner support from the general public, with signatures being collected in favor of the People's Manifesto.
During the meeting, participants discussed various issues, including the state of the Smart City project, rampant traffic congestion, city encroachment, proliferation of high-rise buildings, deforestation, environmental concerns, inadequate infrastructure, and disrupted utilities.
The coordination committee responsible for crafting the People's Manifesto includes prominent figures like Brigadier KG Behl, Padma Shri Doctor Ravi Chopra, Anoop Nautiyal, and others.
This move represents the community's collective frustration with the Smart City plans and their determination to take control of their city's future.
