Town Hall in Shimla is seat of SMC
SHIMLA- Former Shimla Mayor Sanjay Chauhan has shuffled in support of deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal and sought Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh's  immediate attention, saying that Town Hall is the property of Shimla Municipal Corporation and Deputy Mayor should be allotted the room adjacent to Mayor's room in the Town Hall. "The denying to rightful room to deputy Mayor in Town Hall is unconstitutional and against the dignity of democracy", Sanjay Chauhan, a CPIM Leader, charged in a letter shot off to CM.
Newly elected Mayor Surender Chauhan took charge as Mayor in the Town Hall on Tuesday.

But Uma Kaushal did not take charge as the deputy Mayor as she was not allotted room in the Town Hall.

If this is Vyastha Parivartan of the CM, they oppose such parivartan by tooth and nail, Chauhan remarked.

"Municipal Corporation is a constitutional and autonomous body. This type of government interference in this cannot be justified", Chauhan asserted.
The office of the Municipal Corporation Shimla is in the Town Hall since the British period and the Deputy Mayor's room is also in this office, adjacent to the Mayor.
"The restoration work of the Town Hall was done in our time", Chauhan said. It houses the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Councilor's Chamber, Commissioner, House's meeting room and public facilities, he added.
The BJP has given the meeting room of the House to a private company and the Congress party has evicted the Deputy Mayor from his office, action of both(BJP and Congress)  is anti-democracy, Chauhan charged.
"CPI(M) opposes this decision and in order to maintain the autonomy of the Municipal Corporation, demands the government to immediately change its decision and make the Deputy Mayor sit in his office".
