Shimla; As a fresh Western Disturbance gears up to sweep through the Western Himalayan Region starting February 17th, 2024, Himachal Pradesh is bracing itself for a spell of moderate to heavy  spells of rains and snow.

This weather forecast, extending until February 21st, 2024, has sparked excitement among farmers and hoteliers alike, as it promises to rejuvenate crops and enhance the scenic beauty of the region.

According to meteorological experts, the approaching disturbance is expected to bring moderate precipitation coupled with thunderstorms and lightning, primarily impacting higher reaches such as District Chamba, Lahaul Spiti, and surrounding areas.

As the disturbance progresses, its intensity and spread are projected to increase, enveloping popular tourist destinations like Shimla town, with the peak expected around February 19th and 20th.

Heavy to very heavy precipitation in the form of rain and snowfall is anticipated at isolated places in several districts including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, and Lahaul & Spiti on February 19th and 20th, 2024.

Accompanying this spell of precipitation are forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms in the plains, low hills, and mid-hill districts of the state from February 17th to 20th, with isolated instances of hailstorms expected in districts such as Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Solan during this period.

Moreover, the anticipated weather conditions are predicted to result in temperatures dipping 3 to 4 degrees below normal, starting from tomorrow and lasting for the next 3 to 4 days.

Farmers across the region are optimistic about the forecast, as the expected precipitation bodes well for crop cultivation, promising improved yields and overall agricultural prosperity.

Hoteliers, too, are eagerly awaiting the snow as the snowfall and scenic beauty enhance the allure of Himachal Pradesh, attracting visitors from far and wide.

However, authorities have issued advisories urging residents and travelers to take necessary precautions in light of the forecasted weather conditions.

Potential disruptions to traffic and essential services, blockages on state and national highways due to heavy snowfall, as well as challenges with electricity, communication, and water facilities are anticipated.

Additionally, poor visibility conditions, particularly in hilly districts like Shimla, may pose difficulties for commuters and tourists alike, potentially leading to traffic congestion.
