HP-SDRF Foundation Day: Governor Praises Disaster Management Efforts..
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Response Force (HP-SDRF) marked its Foundation Day at Raj Bhavan today. The event also concluded Himachal Disaster Preparedness Month.
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla praised the force for its crucial role in disaster management.
He highlighted India’s annual economic loss of ₹55,000 crore due to natural calamities. He credited the National Disaster Management Authority for reducing losses and saving lives.
The Governor noted Himachal’s vulnerability to disasters like landslides, snowfall, and earthquakes. He cited the 2023 floods and landslides as a wake-up call.
Since its establishment in 2020, HP-SDRF has conducted 148 rescue missions, saved 302 lives, and evacuated 150 people. Major operations included rescues in Churdhar, Shrikhand Mahadev, and Nagwain.
He praised the force’s use of drones and advanced training in diving, mountaineering, and medical response. "HP-SDRF personnel are real heroes, risking their lives for others," he said.
Nine volunteers were honoured for their efforts, including Capt. NPS Bhullar (Shimla Zone, SNCF) and Dr. Uday Bhushan Sharma (AIMSS Chamiyana).
Additional DGP Satwant Atwal Trivedi highlighted the training of 2,500 people and registration of 650 volunteers. Superintendent of Police Arjit Sen presented a report on SDRF operations.
The Governor released the SDRF’s annual report and applauded its work in tough conditions. Mayor Surinder Chauhan and other dignitaries attended the event.
