CEO  Himachal Maneesh Garg Sets Up Polling Station for Lepers, Earning Praise...

SHIMLA: In a heartfelt gesture promoting inclusiveness and democracy, Himachal Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Maneesh Garg has set up a special polling station at the Leprosy Hospital, ensuring that five leprosy patients can cast their votes on June 1.

This commendable effort comes on the heels of Garg receiving the prestigious Best CEO award from the President of India, adding another feather to his cap.

A spokesperson from the Election Department shared the news today, highlighting the Election Commission of India's (ECI) approval for establishing auxiliary polling stations in the state.

This includes the new setup at the Leprosy Hospital, Lohanji, specifically for the five leprosy patients, giving them a chance to participate in the democratic process.

Further bolstering voter inclusivity, the state has also set up auxiliary polling stations in remote and challenging areas.

In Kangra district's 99-Bada-Bhangal of the 20-Baijnath (SC) assembly constituency, 469 voters are registered.

The main polling station at Government Primary School, Bada-Bhangal, will serve 310 voters, while an auxiliary station at Government High School, Bada-Bhangal, will cater to the remaining 159 voters, considering the area's difficult terrain.

Similarly, in Solan district's 27-Dhillon of the 54-Kasauli (SC) assembly constituency, the main polling station at Government Primary School, Dhillon, will accommodate 800 voters.

The auxiliary station at Zonal Leprosy Hospital, Lohanji, ensures that the five leprosy patients can vote comfortably.

These initiatives have increased the total number of polling stations in the state to 7,992, showcasing the Election Department's dedication to making voting accessible to all citizens, regardless of their circumstances.

Garg’s efforts have been widely praised, reflecting his commitment to fostering an inclusive democracy and ensuring every voice is heard.
