CHAMBA/SHIMLA: In a bid to boost sustainable agriculture practices in Himachal Pradesh, the Himalayan Forest Research Institute (HFRI) has offered new Sanjivini HimMitti for farmers to rejig their crops .

HFRI organized a one-day training program on "Utilizing Mycorrhizal Biofertilizers in Organic Farming in Chamba."

Held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Saru, District Chamba, the event saw the active participation of 80 farmers from the region.

Led by Dr. Ashwani Tapwal, Scientist-F, HWSSmt, the program aimed to create awareness among farmers about the benefits of organic farming techniques employing mycorrhizal biofertilizers.

These biofertilizers, developed by HFRI, include 'Him Mitti Sanjeevani-1' and 'Him Growth Booster,' designed to enhance soil fertility and crop growth in an environmentally friendly manner.

During the inauguration, Smt. Kanchan Devi, ICS, Shimla, stressed the importance of adopting organic farming practices, citing their cost-effectiveness, environmental friendliness, and sustainability. She urged farmers to embrace these methods for better crop cultivation and disease management.

Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Director of HFRI, provided insights into the preparation of manure and vermicompost, emphasizing their potential to increase agricultural productivity and profitability.

Dr. Jagdish Singh, Scientist F, and Head Extension Division HWS, shed light on organic cultivation techniques for temperate medicinal plants, encouraging farmers to explore this avenue for enhanced yields and profitability.

The training program is expected to equip farmers with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement sustainable farming practices effectively.

By incorporating organic farming techniques and utilizing mycorrhizal biofertilizers, farmers in Himachal Pradesh can look forward to improved crop yields, reduced cultivation costs, and a healthier environment.

Will these new biofertilisers take off among farmers, only time will tell.

The farmers can give them a try and HFRI should make these available in different parts or district Blocks as well, the farmers demand.
