Cm paystributes to Mahatma Gandhi in Shimla

Shimla: In a touching ceremony that resonated with reverence and patriotism, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu led  Himachal Pradesh in paying tribute to two great leaders of India, Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, on their birth anniversaries.

The day began with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu offering floral tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, at the statue of Gandhi Ji located at The Ridge Shimla. In a heartfelt address, Governor Shukla underscored the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to truth and non-violence. He praised Gandhi Ji's deep connection to Indian traditions, characterized by integrity and simplicity, and highlighted how his principles of Swadeshi, Swaraj, self-reliance, and cleanliness continue to inspire us all.

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, in his message, paid tribute to Gandhi Ji's non-violent approach, which played a pivotal role in India's struggle for independence. He urged citizens to draw inspiration from Gandhi Ji's ideals and incorporate them into their lives as a genuine tribute to the great leader.

Following the tribute, the Governor and Chief Minister visited a photo exhibition showcasing the life of Mahatma Gandhi, allowing the people to connect with his remarkable journey.

Later in the day, Governor Shukla and Chief Minister Sukhu paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at CTO Chowk on his birth anniversary. Governor Shukla reflected on Shastri Ji's famous slogan, 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,' which inspired self-reliance in the country.

He praised Shastri Ji's integrity, humility, and simplicity as qualities that will forever inspire all Indians.

Chief Minister Sukhu echoed this sentiment, highlighting Shastri Ji's role in guiding the nation towards self-reliance during times of food shortage.

The ceremony was not only marked by speeches but also by the rendition of patriotic songs and bhajans, adding a musical dimension to the heartfelt tribute.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthy, local MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor of Municipal Corporation Shimla Surinder Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, and several other dignitaries graced the occasion with their presence. Students from Balika Ashram Tutikandi were also in attendance, further emphasizing the importance of celebrating the legacy of these great leaders among the youth.

In a collective display of respect, Shimla came together to honor the timeless ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, carrying forward their legacies of truth, non-violence, self-reliance, and duty to the nation.
