Vehicles with dark glasses roam hill roads in Himachal

Himachal Police Cracks Down on Rule-Breaking Tourists, Issues Stern Warning.

Shimla: Himachal Police have sounded the alarm on tourists flouting traffic rules and the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019. Officials have noticed an increasing number of tourist vehicles violating regulations, including using illegal black films on car windows and engaging in other unsafe practices.

The violators are now under the scanner, with the police warning of strict legal action.

Black films or heavily tinted glass on vehicle windows, a trend often adopted for style or privacy, is prohibited under the MV Act. Any violator caught will face hefty fines.

The law is clear. Such modifications not only break the rules but also pose safety risks. We are stepping up our checks to ensure compliance,” said a senior police officer.

Adding to their concerns is the alarming trend of tourists and locals displaying firearms, including pistols, in social media posts.

The police have emphasized that such acts are a serious offense under the Arms Act, 1959. Possessing, buying, or selling illegal weapons or even using licensed weapons irresponsibly can result in arrest and severe penalties.

“The mountains are for enjoying nature, not for showing off illegal weapons or breaking traffic rules. Those found violating will not be spared,” warned the Himachal Police.

Authorities have urged tourists and residents to respect the state’s laws and maintain decorum, ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for all.
