SHIMLA: In a move to improve healthcare services, Himachal Pradesh government has announced the upgrading of Casualty wings in various Medical Colleges to Emergency Medicines Department.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired a late evening meeting with the Health Department in this regard.
Under this initiative, the Casualty wings will be strengthened and equipped with enhanced staff, including doctors, nurses, and supporting personnel, he said.
The proposal for this transformation will soon be presented to the Cabinet for approval.
The objective is to establish specialized health services and ensure better health infrastructure at the Atal Institute of Medical Super-specialty in Chamiyana, Shimla.
To streamline the procurement of medicines and medical equipment, the Himachal Pradesh Medical Services Corporation (HPMSC) has been established by the state government.
The corporation will be responsible for purchasing high-quality medicines, advanced medical equipment, and state-of-the-art machinery at competitive prices. The timely supply of these resources to healthcare institutions across the state will be ensured through HPMSC.

This will significantly strengthen emergency services and provide round-the-clock medical care to those in need. Additionally, the government plans to fill vacant positions for specialist doctors and paramedical staff in healthcare institutions on a priority basis.
In a bid to bring the latest advancements in healthcare within the state, the Chief Minister announced the phased implementation of robotic surgery facilities in all medical colleges. This step will offer modern and cutting-edge healthcare services to the people of Himachal Pradesh.
The meeting was attended by Health Minister Dr. (Col) Dhani Ram Shandil, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthi, Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister (IT and Innovation) Gokul Butail, Advisor (Infrastructure) Anil Kapil, and several other high-ranking officials from the Health Department.
