Shimla, 8th October 2024: After PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh adooted Jajurana Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu adopted the Monal bird at the 73rd Wildlife Week's closing ceremony in Shimla. He urged the public to adopt zoo animals, supporting wildlife care and conservation.
The CM announced a unified ticketing system for all zoos in Himachal to streamline tourism and boost conservation funding. A committee will also study pheasant conservation, and Spiti's Sarchu Valley was declared a Conservation Reserve.
Sukhu highlighted efforts to prevent forest fires, combat poaching, and promote eco-tourism, with a Rs. 680 crore zoo project in Dehra set for completion by June 2025. He also launched new websites for Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park and Spiti Wildlife Division, unveiling publications on wildlife and conservation.
Liaq Ram and Shawanoo Ram from Theog were honored for wildlife conservation, alongside other departmental officers and competition winners.
Key officials, including MLA Harish Janartha and DC Anupam Kashyap, were present.
