SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has asked the Central government that Himachal Pradesh should receive substantial financial aid on par with assistance given to Uttarakhand during the Kedarnath disaster in 2013.
He highlighted the unique geographical challenges and higher construction costs faced by hill states, urging the government to adopt a different pattern for financial support.
CM met with an eight-member central team, led by financial advisor Ravneesh Kumar from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) here today. The Central team is here to assess the devastation caused by recent flash floods and landslides due to heavy rains.
CM has pleaded to the Union Government for immediate financial assistance to help the state recover from the losses incurred.
He said the calamity has inflicted extensive damage to power, water supply schemes, roads, and bridges, which will require significant time for permanent restoration.
The Chief Minister urged the Central Government to extend support to expedite the state's recovery.
The Himachal Pradesh Government has already submitted a letter seeking interim relief, with a revised memorandum to be presented after the monsoon season.
