Shimla: In a move aimed at facilitating local farmers and promoting transparency, the State Government of Himachal Pradesh has decided to lift the ban on the export of several wood species, including Safeda, Poplar, Bamboo, and Kuth (Medicinal Plant).

This decision allows residents of the state to export these wood varieties without requiring permits. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that this decision will greatly assist farmers who cultivate these species on a commercial scale.

Furthermore, transportation of wood from these species within the state will no longer necessitate permits, streamlining the process for businesses and individuals. In addition to this, the state government has also eased restrictions on the export of other forest products, such as Khair wood, Katha, cedarwood oil, and various native herbs from Himachal Pradesh. However, these forest products will still require a valid permit from the Forest Department to be taken out of the state.

A notable development accompanying this decision is the state government's consideration to introduce the National Transit Pass System in Himachal Pradesh. This would enable individuals to obtain various e-permits from the Forest Department, making Himachal Pradesh the sixth state in India to implement this system. The National Transit Pass System is expected to bring greater convenience to the permit processes, enhance transparency in departmental operations, and improve the overall functioning of the forest department.
