HP DGP in Manikaraan in Kullu on March 18

KULLU: Director General of Police Himachal Pradesh Sanjay Kundu today directed Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Manikaran Hooliganism Episode to speed up investigation into the case and apprehend the accused at the earliest.

Taking Stock of the law and order scenario in Manikaran and Parbati valleys, Kundu further directed the police officers saying that the police would launch a massive operation under his leadership in Parbati valley to check illegal activities including illicit cultivation of cannabis and poppy plants, drug trafficking. 

The Police also regulate different tourism related activities in the Parbati-Manikaran, which has been notorious for contraband trade over the decades.  

DGP observed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted for the investigation of the case is investigating the Manikaran episode in the right earnest and will be able to apprehend the accused in the case very soon.

To take stock of the Manikaran and Parbati valleys,  Sanjay Kundu visited pilgrimage centre of Manikaran in  Kullu district along with DIG-Central Range, Mandi and SP Kullu today.

He reviewed the investigation done by SIT  in connection with FIR No. 62/2023 which was lodged on 06-03-2023 under sections 147, 148, 149, 427 IPC and section 03 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act at Police Station Kullu.

The irate youth from Punjab had gone on the rampage in Manikaran on March 6 and smashed bottles  and hurled everything that in come in their way at shops in the Manikaran bazaar. 

Even High Court had taken a suo motto notice of the media reports on Manikaran episode  and sought report from the government.

DGP HP also hold a meeting with District Police Officers, SHOs and other officials of District Kullu to review the crime and law & order situation in Kullu district.

Kundu issued instructions to the officers regarding action on crime against women, traffic management especially with regard to upcoming tourist season.

DGP sought stringent action against drugs and drug trafficking.

He directed to the police officers to be tough against drugs and ensure zero tolerance in this regard.

DGP also addressed the concerns and issues of police raised by the police officers in Kullu district during this meeting.

Further, DGP HP showed his concern towards ensuring safety and security issue in Parbati valley in Kullu district.

DGP HP lauded the work being done by Kullu Police and gave best wishes to further effectively maintain law and order in the district.
