Sonam Wangchuk paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat

New Delhi/Leh  Even as Ladakhis have concluded their 1000 km long Leh-Delhi Climate Padyatra, but the Delhi Police have continued detention of  renowned environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk and his supporters in what many are calling a deliberate act of delay and manipulation.

The harsh reality of two Dark days of Ladakhis in Delhi police detention in Delhi are being slammed by their supporters on social media.

The group was set to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat at 7:00 PM, but police purposely delayed their arrival until 10:00 PM.

The tribute, carried out between 10:00 and 11:00 PM, became a staged spectacle, violating the initial timeline.

Earlier, the group was promised to reach Rajghat by 3:00 to 4:00 PM.

However, the area was flooded with police, and national media was barred from covering the events until late in the night.

Jigmat Paljor, Coordinator of the Apex Body, expressed his outrage, saying, “Even after we concluded the Pad Yatra and called off our Anshaan, the Delhi Police continue to keep us under house arrest".

"They’re not allowing people to move freely in Delhi. This is nothing short of an open mockery of civil rights.”

Rajneesh Sharma from Global Jurist added his voice to the criticism, stating, “The whole country saw the Delhi Police’s thuggery today. This is how they silence voices raised against such oppression in the capital.”

Despite it being 2:00 AM, detainees were still not provided proper accommodation.

Paljor further highlighted the situation: “We are being treated as criminals, separated from each other, and constantly under surveillance. This is not the democracy we speak of.”

Shockingly, Wangchuk was isolated and taken to an undisclosed location, away from his supporters.

They deliberately brought Sonam Ji to Rajghat at midnight so no one could speak out against police highhandedness,” Paljor added.

The incident raises serious concerns about the use of state power to stifle dissent, with Wangchuk and his group being restricted even after their peaceful protests had ended, charged the Padyatris.

The police force has been removed from Ambedkar bhavan now, Jigmat is leaving for Ladakh bhavan where Sonam wangchuk is staying right  now.

The Delhi cops said, yatris are free to move around in Delhi, but yatris doubt that Sonam will be detained further, as he is kept under strict surveillance as of now.

Updates awaited.
