SHIMLA- District Magistrate Shimla, Aditya Negi on June 1 has issued an order stating that no contractor or employer should hire any migrant laborer or worker without submitting their complete information, including name, address, and passport-sized photo, to the local police station for verification.
This order will be in effect immediately and will remain applicable for the next two months.
The District Magistrate explained that many migrants come to Shimla seeking employment, including those working as hawkers, street vendors, and in similar jobs under contract with contractors or employers. Unfortunately, some of these migrant workers have been found to be involved in criminal activities based on police investigations.
The lack of proper identification poses challenges for the administration and police in identifying criminals and maintaining law and order.
Such situations can lead to an increase in crime and pose a threat to government property and people's safety.
To address this concern, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that migrant laborers or workers arriving in Shimla must inform the local police station about their arrival and work before engaging in any job.
