Chief Minister Condemns Assault on NRI Couple in Khajjiar..
SHIMLA: In a shocking incident that has sparked widespread condemnation, a Spanish-Punjabi couple was allegedly assaulted in Khajjiar, a popular tourist town in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district.
The couple, who are Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), initially chose not to file a complaint immediately after the incident occurred on June 11. They later lodged a FIR in Amritsar.
A spokesperson for the Himachal Pradesh Government revealed that a Zero FIR has been registered in Amritsar concerning the assault.
The state's Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has strongly condemned the attack and directed law enforcement to investigate thoroughly and ensure the perpetrators face strict consequences.
The incident happened in a parking lot in Khajjiar following a heated argument that escalated into a fight. The local police intervened and took the injured couple to Chamba hospital for first aid.
Despite this, the couple refused medical treatment and did not initially want to file a case. The issue seemed to be resolved on the spot with a settlement in the presence of the police.
Himachal Pradesh is celebrated for its natural beauty and the warm hospitality of its residents, who traditionally regard visitors with great respect.
This unfortunate event is seen as an isolated incident that does not reflect the state's generally peaceful and welcoming nature towards tourists.
