Choorhdhar Pilgrimage Overwhelmed by Crowds, Leading to Chaos...
Choorhdhar: The revered abode of Lord Shiva, has been inundated with pilgrims for the last few days resulting in severe overcrowding and near-stampede situations.
The lack of regulation on pilgrim numbers has led to a chaotic scene at the sacred site.
Overcrowding has not only pushed the limited space and facilities to brink, but the onslaught of Crowds is hitting local ecology and wild life adversely considering Choorhdhar is a wildlife sanctuary.
The samiti has urged DC Shimla, DC Solan and DC Sirmaur to chip in coordinate to regulate the flow of visitors to Choorhdhar mainly in June when rush peaks.
BM Nanta, President of the Shilgur Seva Samiti, expressed serious concerns: “The overcrowding has pushed our resources to the brink. We are struggling to provide adequate food, lodging, and water, and many pilgrims are now forced to sleep outside the Shiv Mandir.”
Despite annual collections of up to 50 lakhs managed by the SDM of Chopal, the Seva Samiti continues to offer free daily meals to thousands of visitors there.
Nanta emphasized, “We appeal to everyone to postpone their visits unless absolutely necessary.
The situation is particularly unmanageable on weekends and holidays, and we cannot ensure proper facilities for all.”
Nanta also urged pilgrims to respect the sanctity of Choorhdhar: “Please avoid loud noise, music, and littering. We need everyone’s cooperation to maintain the dignity of this holy site.”
