Shimla: Public Outcry has erupted in the capital city here as Chinar Trees at The Rudge have been nailed in name of beautification.
The uproar follows revelations by former Deputy Mayor Tikender Singh Panwar and ex-Councillor Maala Singh, who have officially filed a complaint, akin to a First Information Report (FIR), against an unidentified contractor for violating municipal regulations and desecrating the iconic Chinar trees at The Ridge and Mall in Shimla.
In a complaint shot off to Superintendent of Police Shimla Sanjay Gandhi today the duo presented videos, photos, and news links as evidence, showcasing the contractor's alleged use of thousands of nails to wrap Chinar and other sensitive trees with plastic material.
This act violate the Municipal Corporation (MC) Act and guidelines set by the Tree Authority. The complainant highlight a specific order from the High Court that explicitly prohibits the use of nails on trees in Shimla.
Drawing on their combined five years of direct service to the town as elected officials, Panwar and Maala Singh assert that the contractor's actions warrant legal action.
The complaint urges authorities to treat the matter seriously and ensure a thorough indictment of the responsible party, who have inflicted injury to the trees, which are virtually bleeding now.
The accused contractor and authority, under the guise of beautifying Shimla for Christmas and New Year celebrations, now faces potential legal action for this purported violation.
Panwar and Singh's strongly worded complaint to SP Shimla underscores the severity of the act, that warrant immediate accountability in safeguarding the natural heritage of the capital city alreadyreeling climate change.
