Shimla– Rafting enthusiasts from across Asia are preparing to showcase their skills in negotiating the raging rapids of the Satluj River in Shimla district.
Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap chaired the meeting here today and discussed threadbare the arrangements for the upcoming Asian Rafting Competition scheduled to take place from March 3 to March 9, 2024, in the Pandoa area of Sunni near Shimla.
Expressing the district administration's dedication to ensuring the success of this prestigious event, Commissioner emphasized the significance of positioning Shimla's adventure sports tourism on the international platform.
He underscored the potential economic benefits this competition could bring to the state, that will go a long way in developing adventure sports and benefitting local youth.
During the meeting, extensive deliberations were held regarding various aspects crucial for the competition's smooth execution, including venue inspections, provision of bio-toilets, availability of drinking water, emergency healthcare facilities, sanitation measures, and traffic management.
Deputy Commissioner Kashyap urged for close coordination among officials from different departments to facilitate the organization of this international event.
The meeting was conducted by District Tourism Development Officer Sanjay Bhagwati, who briefed Deputy Commissioner Kashyap on the preparations for the international competition.
Among the attendees were Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Ajit Bhardwaj, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shimla Rural Kavita Thakur, District Sports Officer Rakesh Dhota, District Language Officer Anil Harta, along with other officials and staff members.
As rafters brace themselves for the challenges of navigating the roaring rapids of the Satluj River, all eyes are on Shimla district, eagerly anticipating an exhilarating display of skill and athleticism at the Asian Rafting Competition.
