Shimla: The residents of Lahaul-Spiti district joined hands under the banner of Save Lahaul-Spiti Society and contributed Rs 29 lakh towards disaster relief, presenting a commendable display of unity.
The collective effort involved not only government officials, farmers, and members of local governing bodies but also retired civil service officers and individuals residing in various parts of state and outside.
Through the Save Lahaul Spiti Society, a volunteer organization, they extended a helping hand to those severely affected by a recent calamity.
In a heartwarming gesture, they handed over the relief fund to the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today here as a symbol of their outstanding service.
Additionally, some residents from Lahaul-Spiti and other region donated 9 lakh rupees directly to the Chief Minister's relief fund. Subhash Kumar, former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, which had contributed 5 crore rupees towards relief efforts, had personally met him, showcasing the spirit of solidarity across state borders.
Prem Katoch, the President of the Lahaul-Spiti Society, highlighted that this collaborative effort involved retired officers, current civil service officials, and individuals from diverse fields, both within the district and across the nation.
The Society played a crucial role in coordinating these contributions, emphasizing the selfless act as an exemplar of benevolence.
Noteworthy is the involvement of retired civil service officers who, despite living in different parts of the country, reached out to their friends and acquaintances, collecting relief donations by personally visiting households.
The disaster relief fund was presented during a ceremony attended by prominent figures, including Sundar Thakur, former senior officer in the Central Government, Tashi Chhering, former senior bank official, and Prem Singh, currently serving as a DIG in the ITBP.
This noble gesture not only underscores the resilience of Lahaul-Spiti but also reflects the deep sense of community and compassion that unites people during challenging times.
