Shimla Collective Takes Lead in Advocating for Plastic and Flex Banner Ban
Shimla: In a bid to combat the rampant use of plastic and flex banners by parties in elections, Shimla Collective spearheaded a campaign urging Himachal Chief Electoral Officer to ban the use of pkastic and flexi banners in Lok Sabha elections and on other occasions in the city.
The stakehokders had a meeting at the ADC Club, Ridge Shimla, on Earth Day. With a shared commitment to environmental conservation.
The members of Shimla Collective deliberated extensively on strategies to tackle the pressing issue of plastic pollution and the proliferation of flex banners in the capital city here.
According to its spokesperson, wth a firm resolve to address the escalating environmental challenge, Shimla Collective forged ahead with decisive actions:
1. Engagement with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Himachal Pradesh:
Shimla Collective members will engage in a crucial dialogue with the Chief Electoral Officer on April 25, 2024, advocating for a ban on the use of flex banners in electoral campaigning.
This proactive step aims to curb the environmental impact of political advertising practices.
2. Rotary Town Hall Meeting: Recognizing the need for a collaborative approach, a Rotary Town Hall meeting is scheduled for May 4, 2024.
This gathering will bring together stakeholders from Shimla's markets to brainstorm solutions and formulate a cohesive strategy to address the challenges posed by plastic and flex banners.
3. Unified Stakeholder Meeting: In a concerted effort to garner support from diverse sectors of society, Shimla Collective will host a joint stakeholder meeting on June 14, 2024, at Shimla Mall.
Representatives from educational institutions, market associations, social organizations, environmental advocacy groups, and local residents will converge to chart a path forward towards a plastic and flex banner-free Shimla.
The meeting was attended by the members of Shimla Collective, including Capt. NPS Bhullar, former Deputy Mayor Tikender Panwar, Uma Mahajan, Coordinator Ashok Kumar, Vivek Kashyap, Mala Singh, Ankur Thakur, Ranjeev Kuthiala, Raveen Singh, Meenu Sood, Meenakshi Paul, Anuradha, and Pankaj Sharma.
These initiatives would go a long way promoting sustainability and preserving the pristine beauty of Shimla for future generations.
