Shimla, December 7:

Launching a coordinated and statewide crackdown, Himachal Pradesh Police today detained 16 notorious drug peddlers under the Preventive Detention provisions of the PIT-NDPS Act.

The action came in line with the zero-tolerance policy toward drug trafficking announced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during the Anti-Drug Walkathons held in Shimla on November 15 and Dharamshala on December 1.

Police teams carried out simultaneous raids across multiple districts, targeting organised drug networks. As per the district-wise breakup, Solan reported four detentions, followed by Dehra with four, Nurpur two, Baddi three, Hamirpur one, Mandi one, and Sirmaur one — taking the total to 16.

With today’s action, the total number of preventively detained drug offenders under PIT-NDPS this year has reached 62. Since the Act became more effective in 2023, Himachal Police have now detained 46 peddlers in advance and seized illegal property worth ₹48 crore through financial investigations.

The intensified crackdown follows the 6th State-Level NCORD meeting held recently in Dharamshala under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. The meeting reviewed anti-drug operations and emphasised continuous mass awareness and rapid, statewide response against narcotics.

The Chief Minister had made it clear that the government would not allow drug networks to flourish in Himachal. Police said they will further expand surveillance and community-driven safety initiatives to tighten the noose on the drug mafia.
