Shimla, June 14: In a bid to promote fitness, mental well-being and healthy living, Himachal Pradesh Police has launched an awareness campaign ahead of the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations, scheduled to be held at the historic Ridge in Shimla on June 21.

The state police, in collaboration with the AYUSH Department, has appealed to citizens from all walks of life to participate in the mass yoga session and embrace yoga as a daily practice for a healthier and stress-free life.

Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Tewari said yoga was much more than a physical exercise and represented a complete science of life gifted by ancient Indian wisdom to humanity.

"Regular practice of yoga strengthens the body, helps manage stress, improves concentration and creates harmony between the body, mind and soul," he said while urging students, youth, senior citizens and police personnel to join the event.

This year's International Yoga Day theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," focuses on promoting physical and mental wellness across age groups. The programme will begin with reporting at 5.30 am, while the main yoga session will be held from 6 am to 7 am at The Ridge.

According to police officials, the initiative aims to create awareness about the benefits of yoga, including improved fitness, flexibility and strength, better mental health, stronger immunity, emotional balance and a disciplined lifestyle.

Additional Superintendent of Police Narvir Singh Rathour said yoga had been an integral part of Indian philosophy and culture for centuries.

"The real power of yoga lies in creating inner balance, self-discipline and positive energy. It should not remain a one-day event but become a lifelong habit for a disease-free, stress-free and energetic life," he said.

The Himachal Pradesh Police has invited residents to participate in large numbers along with their families and friends and contribute towards building a fit, healthy and positive Himachal Pradesh.

With just a week left for International Yoga Day, the awareness drive seeks to encourage people to adopt yoga as a way of life and make wellness a collective movement across the state.
