Shimla/Nerwa:
An HRTC bus en route from Nerwa to Paonta Sahib met with an accident near Kuvanu in Vikasnagar area in Uttarakhand on Tuesday, and killed three and left 31 injured.
There were over 34 passengers on board in the bus. The driver tried to save bus after the portion of narrow road caved in plunging the bus into the khad near Kuvanu in Uttarakhand, said eyewitnesses.
The swift rescue operation by local authorities and residents is underway.
According to preliminary information, the bus skidded off the road under unknown circumstances, leaving several passengers injured.
The exact number of dead and injured is yet to be officially confirmed, but sources confirmed three dead and 31 injured.
Rescue work was immediately launched, with NDRF, police, home guards and local villagers pulling injured passengers out of the vehicle and rushing them to nearby health centres. Some of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.
Police officials said efforts are underway to clear the site and restore traffic on the stretch. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
