Breaking News – Himachal Pradesh

SHIMLA: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rains in several parts of Himachal Pradesh.

The warning has triggered fresh safety measures, with schools ordered shut in parts of Kangra, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu, and Mandi districts on Monday.

Officials said continuous downpour since late Sunday night has raised fears of landslides and flash floods.

Water levels in rivers and nullahs are already swelling, and the state disaster management authority has asked people to stay away from vulnerable zones.

Officials said that schools will remain closed as a precautionary step, adding that “movement along key highways is being closely monitored, and teams are on standby for emergencies.”

Reports from Kullu said traffic remained blocked on the Manali–Kullu highway near Pandoh due to multiple landslides.

In Solan and Sirmaur, heavy rains triggered fresh slips on rural link roads, cutting off several villages. Farmers in apple belts expressed concern over crop damage as orchards are reeling under waterlogging.

With rains likely to intensify over the next 48 hours, district administrations have sounded alerts in flood-prone belts along the Beas and Satluj rivers.
