Keylong: The icy winds of Lahaul-Spiti turned heavy with grief on Thursday as the body of braveheart soldier Arun, who laid down his life at the Siachen Glacier, reached Udaipur helipad by Army helicopter.
As the tricolour-draped coffin arrived, the air reverberated with slogans of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Amar Rahe Arun.”
Villagers, elders, and school children poured in large numbers to pay their last respects, their eyes moist yet filled with pride for their martyred son. The entire valley wore a sombre look, mourning the untimely loss of one of its own.
“We bow our heads to this brave son of Lahaul-Spiti who sacrificed everything for the motherland. Our deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
May his martyrdom remain immortal,” said locals gathered at the helipad before the procession moved towards his native village.
As the people of the valley bid farewell, one sentiment echoed everywhere—“Jai Hind, Jai Hind ki Sena.”
