Save Lahaul-Spiti society has condemned the detention of Sonam Wangchuk by Delhi Police.
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has termed the detention as undemocratic and condemned the action of the Prime Minister. "You will have to accept their demand of Ladakhis", he Xed.
AAP government in Delhi has also condemned the action of the Delhi police.
Sonam Wangchuk and other Ladakhis were detained at the Delhi border and were taken to the Industrial area police station.
The group, marching over 1000 kilometers from Leh to Delhi, is demanding the implementation of the Sixth Schedule for Ladakh.
The peaceful protesters, who braved the snow-bound treacherous passes of Baralacha La, Tanglang La, and Shinkula before enduring the scorching heat of the plains, were stopped as they neared the capital.
Wangchuk, in a video message, revealed that a notification from the Delhi administration has enforced Section 163 in parts of North and South Delhi, preventing gatherings of more than five people, particularly near Mahatma Gandhi's Samadhi, the planned destination of the march.
According to Wangchuk, heavy police forces, including paramilitary units, have been deployed to prevent the marchers from entering the city.
"It seems every effort is being made to stop us," Wangchuk said in his video message. "We don’t know where they’ll take us next, but the truth is on our side, and we will keep fighting."
The marchers had previously crossed into Haryana, where they were briefly stopped by local police before continuing toward Delhi.
Their goal is to bring attention to Ladakh's demand for constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule, which would provide greater autonomy and protection for the region's environment and culture.
As the climate marchers await further developments, all eyes are on the authorities' next move, with concerns rising over the government's handling of the peaceful protest.
