Shimla, March 12 – The mysterious disappearance of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer (Electrical) of the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), has sent shockwaves through the state's bureaucratic and power corridors.

Negi, the younger brother of Ramesh Negi, retired Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, went missing on March 10 after hiring a taxi for Ghumarwin. His family has raised serious concerns over adverse working conditions in the corporation, alleging undue pressure and victimization of employees.

Vanished Without a Trace

According to police sources, Vimal Negi was last seen in Ghumarwin near Kandraur around 12:30 PM on March 10.

The taxi driver who dropped him off confirmed the location, stating that Negi was seen heading towards Jahu. Before leaving Shimla, he had sought medical help for depression, allegedly triggered by extreme work pressure.

His family claims that he had been working till 2 AM on multiple occasions and had voiced distress over the work culture within HPPCL, where top officials were allegedly running the corporation at their whims and arbitrarily firing employees.

HPPCL Under Scanner

The power corporation has been embroiled in controversy after a viral letter on social media linked Managing Director (MD) and another official  to a corruption case.

The MD had reportedly filed an FIR after his name surfaced in the scandal, adding to the growing controversy within the corporation.

Negi, who was recently given additional charge of the solar wing, was under immense stress, as per his family and close circles.

His wife, who resides in Kinnaur, has made a desperate appeal to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, urging him to intervene and ensure her husband's safety.

Police Swing Into Action

Following an FIR filed at Shimla Police Station, the Himachal Pradesh Police have launched a massive search operation to locate Negi.

His last known movements and phone records are being analyzed.

Social Media Outrage & Call for Action

The case has sparked a wave of concern on social media, with netizens demanding a transparent probe into both his disappearance and the alleged hostile work environment in HPPCL.

Prominent activists, bureaucrats, and citizens are tagging @CMOHimachal, @himachalpolice, and @SukhvinderSSukhu, urging immediate action.

Questions That Need Answers

Did Negi face undue pressure at work?

Was his disappearance linked to the ongoing controversies in HPPCL?

Why are employees with clean records being targeted? Was he forced to do or sign something which he didn't approve of?

HPPCL needs lot of answering.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) is yet to issue an official statement, but pressure is mounting on the government to act swiftly.

As police continue their investigation, Negi's family and well-wishers await answers—and his safe return.
