Images of traffic in snow bound Lahaul-Spiti

The accident occurred when the driver was drving back to Manali. The vehicle skidded and went headon under the tipper near Atal Tunnel.

As many as over 50 vehicles carrying stranded tourists were  escorted out of the snow-bound region by the Lahaul-Spiti police teams under guidance of SP Mayank Chaudhary.

The injured tourists, all from Delhi, were rushed to a local healthcare center in Manali for first aid before being referred to the district hospital in Kullu. According to police, their condition is stable but remains serious.

This second spell of snowfall has left Lahaul-Spiti blanketed in snow, rendering roads slippery and dangerous for travel.

The Manali-Leh National Highway and other key routes have been blocked, halting all traffic to and from the region.

Despite the challenging conditions, the district  police, braving freezing temperatures, managed to escort over 50 vehicles safely.

Many of these tourists, primarily from Maharashtra, were provided temporary lodging and boarding arrangements in Lahaul-Spiti by the administration.

The situation remains critical as snowfall continues, with overcast skies further complicating rescue and relief operations.

Authorities have advised against unnecessary travel to the region and are closely monitoring the weather and road conditions to ensure the safety of residents and tourists.
