Doctors Outraged, Demand Arrest
NEW DELHI October 26 — Anger is boiling across India’s medical fraternity after 28-year-old Dr. Sampada Mundhe, a government doctor from Phaltan, was found dead under suspicious circumstances — leaving behind chilling hints of sexual assault, harassment, and political pressure.
Dr. Sampada, who hailed from a humble background, was just a month away from completing her bond duty when her life and dreams came crashing down.
Known for her honesty and courage, she reportedly faced continuous harassment after refusing to issue a fake fitness certificate allegedly at the behest of a powerful MP and his aides.
Her handwritten note and palm message named a police sub-inspector for sexual assault and exposed the nexus of political and police pressure that had cornered her. Yet, her repeated pleas for help went unheard.
The United Doctors Front Association (UDFA), FAIMA, and Central MARD have all condemned the incident and demanded the immediate arrest of the MP, his personal assistant, and the accused police officer, calling it a “clear case of institutional murder.”
> “Dr. Sampada stood for truth and integrity — the system failed her. We demand arrests, not assurances,” said Dr. Lakshya Mittal, National President of UDFA, in a strong statement.
Doctors across the country have taken to social media and hospital premises, staging silent protests and online campaigns, urging both the Maharashtra government and the Centre to ensure swift justice.
Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said that “no one will be spared,” while police have suspended the accused PSI and detained another suspect — but outrage continues to rise over the inaction against the MP and his aides.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders have termed it “institutional murder”, questioning how a young doctor could be pushed to death by a system meant to protect her.
From city hospitals to rural clinics, doctors are lighting candles, demanding accountability, and asking the toughest question of all.
