Kufri, June 12: In a significant boost to environmental conservation efforts in the Shimla hills, troops of the 133 Ecological Task Force (Paryavarani) joined the ongoing ‘Surya Green – Himalayan Odyssey’ plantation campaign at Kufri on Friday, reinforcing hopes of  greening the hills under tourism stress.

The plantation and awareness drive brought together personnel of 133 ECO TA, participants of the expedition, representatives of TATA EV, and students of Government Senior Secondary School, Kufri.

The initiative forms part of the Territorial Army's "Know Your TA" campaign and aims to strengthen public participation in environmental protection.

The ‘Surya Green – Himalayan Odyssey’, flagged off from Kasauli under the aegis of Surya Command, seeks to promote environmental awareness, sustainable practices and stronger engagement between the Armed Forces and local communities across the Himalayan region.

During the programme, participants planted saplings and took part in awareness sessions highlighting the urgent need to preserve the ecologically sensitive Himalayan landscape.

Students enthusiastically joined the drive and pledged to protect and nurture the saplings, while learning about biodiversity conservation, afforestation and environmental stewardship.

Officials emphasized that environmental conservation is a collective responsibility and called for greater public involvement in protecting natural resources.

They noted that plantation campaigns not only help increase green cover but also create lasting awareness among younger generations about the importance of safeguarding the environment.

The participation of 133 ECO TA, a unit known for its pioneering role in ecological restoration in the Himalayas, has added momentum to greening efforts in the Shimla hills.

The event reflected the force's continued commitment to environmental restoration and inspired local communities to play an active role in building a greener and more sustainable future.
