ED Attaches ₹1.84 Crore Property of Former DTO Nahan in Govt Fund Embezzlement Case
Shimla: In a major action against corruption in government departments, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Shimla, has provisionally attached an immovable property worth ₹1.84 crore belonging to Satish Kumar, former District Treasury Officer (DTO), Nahan, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
According to ED officials, the attached asset comprises a 200 sq. yard plot with constructed building located in Sunny Enclave, Kharar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Punjab.
The agency stated that the property is believed to have been acquired using proceeds of crime generated through embezzlement of government funds during Satish Kumar’s tenure as DTO.
The attachment comes as part of the ongoing probe into alleged large-scale financial irregularities and diversion of treasury funds.
Investigators suspect that government money was siphoned off and laundered into movable and immovable assets over a period of time.
Sources said further scrutiny of bank transactions, financial trails and benami links is underway, and more assets may come under the scanner.
The ED is also expected to examine the role of other individuals who may have been involved in the embezzlement racket.
The latest attachment is being seen as a strong signal to government officials misusing their positions for personal gain.
