Mandi, January 20:

Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking, Mandi police have registered three separate cases under the NDPS Act and arrested six accused in the last 24 hours, recovering heroin (chitta) and charas in significant quantities.

 

In the first case, registered at Balh police station (FIR No. 16/26 dated January 20), police recovered 74.80 grams of heroin from a white car (HP-29B-7924) during night patrol near Nerchowk on January 19.

The car driver, Abdul Momin, son of Mohammad Ali, a resident of Kaned, Sundernagar, was arrested on the spot. He was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded to three days police custody.

 

In the second case, under FIR No. 08/26 registered at Dhanotu police station on January 19, the STF Central Range Mandi team recovered 11 grams of heroin from Akshay, son of Shri Krishan Chand, a resident of Jugahan, Sundernagar, during naka checking.

The accused was arrested and later produced before the court, which granted two days police remand.

The third case was registered at Sundernagar police station (FIR No. 15/2026) under Sections 20, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act. During a naka at Pungh on January 20, police searched a Swift car (HR-12AS-5515) and recovered 701 grams of charas.

Three accused – Sagar, Mohit and Ashish, all residents of Gohana in Sonipat district, Haryana – were arrested. They will be produced before the court on Wednesday. Investigation in all the cases is underway.

Police officials reiterated that the district police will continue strict action against drug smugglers to keep the region drug-free.
