Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced today that the Himachal Pradesh Government has significantly bumped up the prize money for the state’s athletes who win medals on the international stage.

Speaking in Shimla, he said, “We’ve upped the prize for gold medalists in the Olympics, Winter Olympics, and Paralympics from Rs. 3 crore to Rs. 5 crore. Silver medalists will now get Rs. 3 crore instead of Rs. 2 crore, and those bagging bronze will receive Rs. 2 crore, up from Rs. 1 crore.”

The Chief Minister also shared the new rewards for Asian Games and Para Asian Games medalists.

“We’re boosting the prize for gold medalists from Rs. 50 lakh to Rs. 4 crore. Silver winners will now get Rs. 2.5 crore instead of Rs. 30 lakh, and bronze winners will be rewarded with Rs. 1.5 crore, up from Rs. 20 lakh.”

Athletes excelling in the Commonwealth Games and Para Commonwealth Games are also set to benefit from this revision. “Gold medalists will now receive Rs. 3 crore instead of Rs. 50 lakh. Silver medalists will get Rs. 2 crore, up from Rs. 30 lakh, and bronze medalists will get Rs. 1 crore, up from Rs. 20 lakh,” Sukhu added.

“This increase shows our commitment to supporting our athletes,” said the Chief Minister. “Our new sports policy is all about recognizing and encouraging sporting talent, which will help develop sports in our state. This will not only boost morale but also attract more talent to pursue excellence in sports.”
