Solan: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday arrested a forest guard while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 in Panjehra area of Solan district. The accused was caught red-handed in a trap laid by the vigilance team.

The arrested official has been identified as Mukesh Kumar, a forest guard posted in the Panjehra beat. He was allegedly demanding the bribe to “settle” a complaint related to the removal of debris lying on a Public Works Department (PWD) road.

According to vigilance officials, Mukesh Kumar had received a complaint alleging that debris removed from the road had been sold by a private individual. Instead of proceeding legally, the forest guard allegedly pressured the complainant to pay ₹50,000, threatening action if the money was not paid.

Disturbed by the repeated demand for bribe, the victim approached the Vigilance Police Station, Baddi, and reported the matter. Acting on the complaint, a team led by DSP Vigilance Dr Pratibha Chauhan laid a trap and caught the forest guard while he was accepting the bribe amount.

The accused will be produced before a Solan court later in the day.
