After nearly five years of legal battle, Bollywood actress and Mandi BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has tendered an unconditional apology to 90-year-old Bibi Mahinder Kaur — the elderly woman farmer she had insulted during the 2020–21 farmers’ protest.
Back in December 2020, Kangana had tweeted a controversial post claiming that “women like Bibi Mahinder Kaur are available for ₹100 to join protests,” mistaking her for Shaheen Bagh’s Bilkis Bano.
The tweet triggered nationwide outrage and was later deleted, but not before the veteran farmer from Bathinda filed a defamation case against the actress.
After years of court proceedings, Kangana appeared before the Bathinda court where she expressed regret and offered an unconditional apology to Bibi Mahinder Kaur.
Her apology was recorded by the court, finally closing a chapter that had drawn massive public criticism and political backlash.
Bibi Mahinder Kaur, one of the prominent faces of the farmers’ movement, was hailed by many for her quiet yet firm resolve. “Truth may take time, but it wins,” she said after the hearing, symbolizing the grit and dignity with which she pursued justice.
Kangana’s apology marks a rare instance of accountability from a public figure who once stood defiant amid the farmers’ agitation and its political fallout.
