Shimla: In a classic reminder of nature’s dominance in Dev Bhoomi Himachal, the “rain god” played spoilsport, forcing the cancellation of the President’s proposed visit to the high-altitude Atal Tunnel in Lahaul.
According to an urgent communication from the President’s Secretariat, the April 29 visit of President Droupadi Murmu to the strategically significant tunnel stands cancelled due to inclement weather conditions prevailing in the region.
The President, who is on a tour of Himachal Pradesh from April 27 to May 1, will now stay put at her Mashobra retreat instead of heading to the snow-bound Lahaul valley. She is currently camping at Rashtrapati Niwas Mashobra.
The “Most Immediate” message has been flashed to the Chief Secretary, DGP and senior district officials, directing them to take necessary action in view of the cancellation.
The sudden change in plans highlights the unpredictable mountain weather, where even the highest-level कार्यक्रम bow before nature’s mood swings in the hills.
