RDA, SAMDCOT Hold Gate Meeting at IGMC; Threaten Mass Casual Leave, Strike Over Dr Narula’s Termination

Shimla, Dec 25:

The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), IGMC, along with SAMDCOT, held a gate meeting on the hospital premises on Thursday to protest the termination of Dr Raghav Narula, senior resident in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, in connection with the alleged scuffle with patient Arjun Punwar (35) on December 22.

Terming the termination order “hasty and unjust,” the doctors demanded immediate revocation of the order against Dr Narula.

They also sought registration of an FIR against local leader Naresh Dasta, alleging that he threatened Dr Narula and asked him to leave the country.

The protesting doctors demanded examination of CCTV footage of the incident, strengthening of security arrangements at IGMC, and registration of FIRs to ensure protection of doctors on duty.

The RDA and SAMDCOT announced that doctors would proceed on mass casual leave on Thursday.

A delegation of SAMDCOT is scheduled to meet Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on December 26 morning to press their demands.

Warning of escalation, the associations said that if their demands are not met, doctors would go on an indefinite strike from December 27.

The Himachal Medical Officers’ Association (HMOA) has extended its support to the RDA and SAMDCOT.

RDA AIIMS issued statement and condemned the assault on Dr Narula, seeking security of medical professionals at IGMC.
