DEHRADUN/HALDWANI:
In a major breakthrough that has brought relief to jewellers across the region, Nainital SSP Dr Manjunath T.C. on Monday cracked the sensational theft at Radhika Jewellers in the Mukani area, exposing a highly organised inter-state burglary gang through what police described as professional and sustained investigation.
The police arrested four seasoned burglars, including gang leader Maksud, from Banbasa near the Indo-Nepal border.
Around ₹22 lakh worth of stolen gold and silver jewellery was recovered from their possession. The vehicle used in the crime has also been seized.
According to police, the gang operated with meticulous planning, targeting jewellery shops and making swift inter-state escapes to avoid detection.
The Mukani theft had triggered panic among jewellers, but the swift action by the Nainital police has helped restore confidence in the trading community.
SSP Dr Manjunath T.C. said the case was solved by combining technical surveillance, ground intelligence and coordinated teamwork. He reiterated that strict action would continue against organised crime networks operating in Uttarakhand.
Local jewellers welcomed the arrests, saying the recovery and crackdown had come as a “big relief” after days of anxiety following the daring theft.
