Sonam Wangchuk speaking to media in Delhi

Despite facing initial detentions, Wangchuk expressed satisfaction that their message of environmental conservation gained more attention. He submitted a memorandum to the government, urging Ladakh's inclusion under Schedule 6 of the Constitution, which grants tribal and local communities governance authority.

Wangchuk also called for the restoration of democracy through statehood and has been assured of a meeting with India's top leadership, including the Prime Minister or the Home Minister.

While addressing the media in New Delhi, Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk emphasized the importance of urban lifestyles in protecting the Himalayan climate.

"If people in cities live simply, the Himalayas will be protected, and locals in Ladakh can continue to live simple lives in harmony with nature," he said. Wangchuk stressed that safeguarding the fragile Himalayan ecosystem is vital for both urban and mountain communities.

Thus is the message we conveyed  from Rajghat on the Jayanti of Mahatma Gandhi here, Wangchuk said and avoided to comment on his detention and tactics of Delhi Police.
